Adelabu dismisses defection rumours, reaffirms loyalty to APC

Former Nigerian Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has firmly refuted claims that he is planning to switch allegiance from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied People’s Movement. Adelabu's media aide, Femi Awogboro, issued a statement on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, to quash the speculation.

He remains a committed member of the APC and continues to hold the President and National Leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the highest regard as his political mentor.

The reports alleged that Adelabu's personal assistant had met with APM members to arrange the former minister's defection before the 2027 general elections. Adelabu, however, described these claims as baseless and unfounded, emphasizing his unwavering loyalty to the APC and his high regard for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he considers his political mentor.

Adelabu stressed his belief in the party, respect for its leadership, and commitment to the democratic process, stating he would always adhere to the national leadership's decisions.

Chief Adelabu believes in the party, respects its leadership, and remains committed to the democratic process. Given his well-known decency and integrity in politics, he is always prepared to respect the legitimate decisions of the party’s national leadership.

The former minister urged the public to disregard the "false narrative" as a deliberate attempt to mislead and create confusion. This statement emerges as political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly after Adelabu's participation in the recent APC governorship primary in Oyo State, where he did not emerge as the candidate.

Consequently, the public is urged to disregard the false narrative linking Mr Ajiboye Akande or Chief Adebayo Adelabu to any impending defection to the APM. The rumour is baseless, mischievous, and clearly intended to create confusion where none exists.
