Osun flyover: Adeleke accuses politicians of sabotage, orders tighter security

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the alleged sabotage of the Lameco Bridge in Osogbo, accusing unnamed politicians of orchestrating the vandalism of public infrastructure for political advantage. The governor made these accusations on Friday after inspecting the damaged section of the newly commissioned bridge.

Adeleke, who also directed immediate security surveillance of key public assets across the state, described the alleged acts as anti-development. He argued that politicians should focus on presenting their platforms and achievements rather than destroying public property. "Election is about the people voting for the leaders of their choice. Our job as politicians is to market our plans and records. Why would any genuine politician arrange to destroy a beautiful edifice like the Lameco Bridge because of an election? That conduct is a hate crime against the people of Osun State," Adeleke stated.

The governor commended the Ministry of Works engineers for their swift response and emphasized the need to secure public assets. "I hereby direct immediate surveillance and monitoring of key infrastructures. We must secure public assets in the best interest of the state and her residents," he instructed.

The Lameco Flyover was temporarily closed to traffic less than a month after its July 1 commissioning due to a discovered structural defect. This incident has ignited political controversy, with the Accord Party alleging sabotage by opposition APC elements. The APC, however, dismissed these claims, suggesting the defects might stem from structural deficiencies and calling for an independent assessment, while the state government insists on deliberate vandalism.
