Adeleke declares Friday work-free day for Osun workers

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public service workers across the state. This decision comes just ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

The declaration, communicated through a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared by the governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, is intended to enable workers to travel and prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote. All categories of workers are covered, with the exception of those performing emergency and essential duties.

The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies.

Governor Adeleke also urged Osun workers, their relatives, and friends to participate massively in the election and defend their votes to ensure the continuity of his administration's policies. In a pre-election message, he commended the organized labor and workers for their support, describing the relationship with his administration as mutually beneficial.

We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.

"The time for action has come," Adeleke stated, tasking formal workers to mobilize informal workers, artisans, and professional bodies. He emphasized the importance of remaining firm in defending their constitutional rights to vote and be voted for, viewing the election as an opportunity to sustain the achievements of the past three and a half years.

The governor appealed to the electorate to protect the gains recorded under his administration, characterizing it as a "workers-friendly government." He warned against a "return to dark days," urging a collective effort to defend the progress made.

We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days.
