Adeleke's re-election a victory for democracy, says Accord Party chairman

Maxwell Mgbudem, National Chairman of the Accord Party, has declared the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke as a historic triumph for democracy and the people of Osun State. Mgbudem stated that the voters have unequivocally expressed their will through their ballots, signaling a clear mandate for continuity and inclusive governance.

Addressing reporters in Osogbo, Mgbudem characterized the election as a victory of courage over fear and intimidation. He condemned the electioneering period, which he described as marred by unprecedented harassment, property destruction, arrests, and even killings. Mgbudem specifically criticized the use of federal power, particularly by the Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging these actions were intended to suppress the party, the government, and the citizens of Osun State.

Furthermore, Mgbudem highlighted the alleged deliberate crippling of local governments by withholding federal allocations, despite a court order for their release. He asserted that the objective behind these actions was to destabilize Governor Adeleke's administration and create a pretext for declaring a state of emergency in Osun State. The Accord Party chairman stressed that his party was prepared for an election, not a conflict, believing that the ballot is more powerful than bullets.

The electioneering period was characterised by unusual harassment, intimidation, destruction of property, arrests, detention, killings and the use of federal might, particularly the Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to subdue, suppress and oppress the party, the Government and peace-loving people of Osun State in a way never seen in this democratic era.

Mgbudem credited the victory to the tangible evidence of Adeleke's transformative leadership and its positive impact on Osun State. He extended an invitation to opposition parties, urging them to set aside political differences and unite with the Accord government to foster the state's greatness. Mgbudem emphasized that the collective interest of Osun State should supersede individual political ambitions.
