Adeleke to Osun Voters: Ignore Threats, Troop Out to Vote Accord on August 15

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on residents to disregard opposition threats and participate actively in the August 15 governorship election, urging them to vote for his re-election. Addressing worshippers at a church service in Osogbo, Adeleke accused the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates of resorting to violence because they have been rejected by the electorate.

Because the people have rejected them, because voters have endorsed me, because defeat stared them in the face, they resorted to violence. We are not scared. Osun people are not afraid.

The governor's campaign organization, the Imole Campaign Council, has alerted national and international communities, as well as the Inspector-General of Police, about what it describes as an "unsettled political climate" in the state. The council specifically raised concerns about the alleged "systematic, unlawful arrests" of Accord party leaders and other prominent figures by the APC in the lead-up to the election.

Adeleke asserted that his administration's achievements in areas such as workers' welfare, health, education, and infrastructure speak for themselves. He expressed confidence in his victory, framing the election as a choice between light and darkness, and assured voters that their safety would be guaranteed. He encouraged citizens to vote their conscience and "punish those killing and maiming our people by voting against them."

Meanwhile, other political actors have weighed in on the pre-election atmosphere. Olawepo-Hashim urged the public to support his party despite alleged disloyalty from the governor and to reject Tinubu's endorsement. The African Alliance Congress (AAC) criticized the APC's alleged unpreparedness to lead, citing a debate boycott. Additionally, Oyintiloye urged the police to remain neutral and ensure security.
