Adeleke wins Osun governorship election again

Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term in office, winning the Osun State governorship election for the Accord Party. He defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes, by a margin of 66,252 votes.

Adeleke garnered 511,067 votes, marking his second electoral victory in four years and making him the second governor to be re-elected in the state. His win follows his 2022 victory on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform against the then-incumbent APC Governor Gboyega Oyetola. The current election saw a high voter turnout, with over 52 percent of registered voters participating.

Several factors contributed to Adeleke's success. These include internal divisions within the APC, the incumbent governor's consistent payment of salaries, a challenge for previous APC administrations in the state, and support from key figures like former deputy governor Senator Iyiola Omisore and music star David Adeleke (Davido). The electoral commission and security agencies were also noted for their efficient conduct, with results promptly uploaded.

Adeleke won in 19 out of the 30 local government areas, securing significant votes in Osogbo, Ede North, and Ede South. The APC stated it would review the results before deciding on its next course of action. Governor Adeleke, in his victory speech, called for unity, stating there should be "no victor, no vanquished."
