The Alternative for Germany is becoming the party of first choice, and a government led by it would pose a threat to Poland, according to an expert quoted by Rzeczpospolita.

Łukasz Jasiński, a Germany analyst at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, said the growing wave of support for the AfD represents a real problem for Polish-German relations and the security of NATO’s eastern flank.

He said the social consequences would emerge over the longer term. At the same time, immigrants from European Union countries may feel relatively stable because of their legal status and their role in the economy.

The assessment places Germany’s domestic political shift in a wider regional context, with particular attention to its implications for Poland and the alliance’s eastern flank.
