Affordable Baltic resort Gdynia charms visitors, but beach infrastructure lags

Gdynia, a Polish Baltic Sea resort, is emerging as a top destination for travelers seeking affordability and a reprieve from crowded tourist spots. Travel journalist Orijus Gasanovas noted that among the trio of Gdansk, Sopot, and Gdynia, the latter offers the most budget-friendly option, making it ideal for those looking to save money while avoiding large crowds.

The city boasts a significant amount of green space, with forests, parks, and recreational areas covering nearly half of its territory, a feature locals are proud of. Gdynia also offers a unique blend of city life and coastal relaxation, with attractions like the "Flow cafe" revolutionizing breakfast options and becoming a popular spot for younger visitors. However, Gasanovas pointed out that dining can still be relatively expensive, with breakfast sets costing around 8 euros and a coffee adding another 4.20 euros.

While Gdynia offers a pleasant experience, Gasanovas observed a recurring problem across Polish beaches: a lack of public restrooms and trash bins. Despite this drawback, the city provides amenities such as shaded areas on the beach for older visitors and a lively promenade, the Nowowiejski, popular for walking and cycling, which Gasanovas likened to California. The city's compact nature allows visitors to easily access both urban entertainment and beachside tranquility.
