After stellar World Cup, Cape Verde goalkeeper to join Chilean club

Vozinha, the celebrated goalkeeper who was instrumental in Cape Verde's surprising World Cup journey, is on the verge of signing with the prominent Chilean club Colo Colo. The club officially announced the impending transfer, with Vozinha expected to arrive in Chile shortly for medical examinations and his official presentation at the Monumental Stadium.

The 40-year-old shot-stopper captured global attention with his heroic displays during the World Cup. Notably, he was a key figure in Cape Verde's impressive 0-0 group-stage draw against eventual champions Spain and delivered a strong performance in their hard-fought 3-2 extra-time loss to finalists Argentina in the knockout rounds.

Vozinha is set to become a Colo Colo player; he will arrive in Chile in the coming days, undergo the necessary medical tests and will then be presented here at the Monumental Stadium.

Vozinha, whose full name is Josimar Jose Evora Dias, joins Colo Colo from Chaves, a club in the Portuguese second division. Despite not signing his first professional contract until the age of 26, his career has spanned multiple countries, including Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova, and Angola. Colo Colo's president, Anibal Mosa, cited Vozinha's current excellent form as the primary reason for the transfer.

Beyond his on-field heroics, Vozinha has also achieved significant online fame, partly due to collaborations with Brazilian influencer Casimiro. His Instagram following has surged dramatically, growing from 50,000 to nearly 30 million followers.
