Afturelding Secures Promotion to Iceland's Top Football League

Afturelding has officially secured its place in the Bestu deild karla, Iceland's premier men's football league, for the next season. The club from Mosfellsbær clinched their promotion with a decisive 2-0 home victory over Vestri during the penultimate round of the 1. deild.

The win propelled Afturelding to 45 points, establishing a comfortable five-point lead over second and third-placed teams Þróttur and Fylkir, with only the final round of matches left to play. The team's performance has been a testament to their consistent play throughout the season.

In the decisive match against Vestri, the first half saw limited scoring opportunities. However, Norwegian player Joacim Holtan broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a well-constructed attack. Captain Aron Elí Sævarsson initiated the play with a run down the left wing, setting up Holtan for a precise finish into the top corner of the net.
