Agadir security authorities deny organized gang targeting Taroudant residents

Agadir security authorities have rejected widely circulated social media claims that a criminal gang in a black car was targeting residents of Taroudant for robbery.

A fact-checking statement issued on Friday, Sept. 4, said a review of records held by the Taroudant provincial security service found only one isolated case involving an attempted robbery with a vehicle. Initial findings indicated that the incident did not involve a gang randomly targeting residents.

Instead, authorities said, it arose from a personal dispute between a man and a woman. The case escalated on Thursday, Sept. 3, when the man was lured and subjected to an attempted violent robbery using a car.

Security services carried out extensive inquiries in coordination with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance. The investigation led to the arrest of the female suspect, who was placed in custody while judicial inquiries continue under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Authorities are still working to identify and arrest any other people who may have taken part.

Agadir security authorities urged the public to treat information shared on social media with caution. They said security services would continue examining posts about security-related incidents and clarifying their findings for the public.
