Fez police arrest man accused of spreading false claims and alarming residents

Police in Fez arrested a 34-year-old man after videos appeared on social media warning residents not to go out at night in several neighborhoods of the city.

The videos alleged that a motorcycle rider and his companion were committing “brutal” robberies using violence. Police said their investigation found no complaints or reports of crimes matching the claims.

Authorities identified and arrested the suspect after determining that the incidents had been fabricated. He was placed under judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office.

The investigation will examine the circumstances of the case and the reasons behind the publication of the false claims, police said.
