Agustín Dos Santos to Lead Uruguay’s Football Team at the South American Games

Agustín Dos Santos, Nacional’s teenage No. 10, will lead Uruguay’s football team at the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina.

The Uruguayan Football Association confirmed the 18-player squad on Thursday. Santiago Espasandín, an assistant to Diego Forlán with the under-20 team, will coach the side during the tournament.

Dos Santos was born on February 9, 2008, and has already made 41 appearances for Nacional. He has scored one official goal and two in friendly matches, while starting three Copa Libertadores games and appearing as a substitute in two others.

Several of his Nacional teammates were also selected, including Luciano Rodríguez, Román Clematte, Mateo Soria and Luciano González. Peñarol contributed Brian Barboza, Rodrigo Álvarez, Julio Daguer and Estevan Pereyra. Barboza is among the squad’s most experienced top-flight players, with 18 appearances in official and friendly matches.

The only players based abroad are goalkeeper Axell Amaral of Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates and Lautaro Ultra, who recently moved from Uruguay’s second division to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. Uruguay will face Venezuela on September 17, Argentina on September 19 and Paraguay on September 21 in Group B.
