Ahead of European Championship qualifiers, Lithuanian baseball team coach sets ambitious goal

Despite facing a significant number of injuries, the Lithuanian national baseball team's coach remains optimistic about their chances in the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. He stated that belief in the team is essential for participation and that dealing with injured players is not new to his coaching career.

The absence of key players like Edvardas Matusevičius, described as a leader of the new generation, and Vytas Valinčius is a blow. However, the coach emphasized that the team's strength lies not just in star players but also in the collective. With 11 to 12 debutants joining experienced core players, he hopes the veterans will set a good example for the newcomers, particularly the very young players.

Regarding the team's first opponent, Slovakia, the coach acknowledged their strength, noting that their clubs compete in the Czech championship, providing valuable experience. The primary goal for the opening match is a successful start, minimizing errors, and maintaining focus. The coach also briefly touched upon Tomas Valinčius's impressive achievement of debuting for the US college team, expressing pride and acknowledging that while he may not play for Lithuania in the future, he will always be considered a teammate and Lithuanian.
