AI company Replit acquires Icelandic startup Test 13

US artificial intelligence company Replit has acquired Icelandic technology firm Test 13, founded by Gunnar Kolbeinsson and Viktor Margeirsson.

Test 13 began operations in March 2025 with the aim of testing how far a software company could be built with artificial intelligence as its main force multiplier. Soon after its founding, it began working with Replit after receiving an invitation to join the company's Ambassador Program. Test 13 was one of 10 companies worldwide selected for the programme.

The announcement described Replit as one of the world's leading AI companies. It recently appeared on Forbes' list of the 50 most exciting AI companies worldwide and has attracted attention for its revenue growth. The company has expanded rapidly and recently completed a $400 million funding round at a $9 billion valuation.

The acquisition was presented as evidence of major changes in the software industry. Projects that once required large development teams can increasingly be completed by much smaller teams using AI tools such as Replit to multiply their output. Following the deal, Test 13's founders will join Replit.
