Air Algérie’s Direct Flights to Moscow Set for Possible Autumn Return

Air Algérie’s direct flights to Moscow are moving closer to a return, but travelers will have to wait a little longer before the route is officially restored. Algeria and Russia are working toward a restart in autumn 2026, although no precise date has been announced.

The prospect was confirmed by Russia’s ambassador to Algeria, Alexei Solomatin, according to the Russian agency RIA Novosti. The issue featured in discussions at the latest Algerian-Russian intergovernmental commission meeting in Moscow.

“We hope so. At the last meeting of the intergovernmental commission of the two countries in Moscow, the parties made every possible effort to restore the flights,” Solomatin said.

One final administrative procedure remains central to the restart: the accreditation of Air Algérie’s representative in Russia. Solomatin said the file is progressing and receiving particular attention from the authorities, who want to complete it quickly.

Before the flights were suspended in April, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, had authorized Air Algérie to operate up to three weekly services between Algiers and Moscow. The flights were later gradually removed from booking systems. The route’s effective return will only be confirmed when ticket sales open and the airline publishes its official schedule, frequencies and fares.

The loss of the direct link has complicated travel for students and tourists between the two countries. Connecting flights now take longer and cost more. The possible reopening forms part of Air Algérie’s broader international network expansion, supported by fleet renewal and new or strengthened routes to destinations including Berlin, Shanghai and Delhi.
