Aircraft stuck on runway after landing incident at Reykjavík Airport

An aircraft belonging to the U.S. company Bell Geospace became stuck on the runway at Reykjavík Airport after a tire burst during landing on Tuesday. The company specializes in geophysical research, using sensitive equipment to map the Earth's bedrock and geological layers from the air.

Following the initial incident, which saw the plane get stuck on runway markers, further complications arose when a wheel reportedly broke during efforts to move the aircraft. This has left the Basler BT-67, an upgraded version of the Douglas DC-3, firmly immobilized.

Isavia, the airport operator, confirmed the incident and stated that personnel, along with the Reykjavík Airport fire brigade, are on site assisting. Efforts are underway to lift the aircraft using some form of support to remove it from the runway. The extent of any damage to the runway itself will only become clear once the plane has been moved.
