AirNav Temporarily Closes Airspace at Halim, Soekarno-Hatta and Radin Inten II

AirNav Indonesia temporarily closed the airspace serving three airports on Sunday as volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau spread across the region. The measure affected Halim Perdanakusuma, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Radin Inten II.

The closures began at different times under aviation notices. Soekarno-Hatta’s airspace closed at 4:52 a.m. local time under NOTAM A3344/26, with reopening estimated for 9:30 a.m. Radin Inten II closed at 4:18 a.m. under NOTAM B1123/26 and was expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Halim’s airspace closed at 7:20 a.m. under NOTAM A3345/26, with reopening estimated for 10 a.m.

Hermana Soegijantoro, AirNav’s executive vice president for corporate secretary, said the closures were a flight-safety measure. “Flight safety is the top priority in every adjustment to air navigation services,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday.

AirNav said the ash distribution remained dynamic, requiring continuous monitoring and adjustments to navigation services. Through the Indonesia Network Management Center, it was tracking airspace conditions and the ash spread to help manage air traffic and ensure that aeronautical information was updated on time.

The company also continued coordinating with aviation stakeholders. It said information about airspace conditions would be updated as developments warranted.
