Al Dhahirah Governorate emerges as a key pillar in Oman's food security strategy

Al Dhahirah Governorate is emerging as a pivotal center for Oman's food security strategy, actively attracting investment and implementing advanced agricultural, livestock, and fisheries projects. This progress is driven by strong collaboration between government bodies and the private sector, with a clear objective to maximize local production utilizing modern technologies.

The governorate is experiencing a surge in development, marked by an integrated portfolio of ongoing, recently completed, and future projects. Dr. Talal bin Zahran Al Busaidi, Director General of Agriculture and Water Resources in Al Dhahirah, highlighted the region's potential to become a comprehensive economic hub for food production. This vision is supported by its natural resources, diverse activities, and substantial infrastructure development, all in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

Al Dhahirah boasts strategic assets including fertile land, water resources, agricultural expertise, and a diverse production base. Its location provides access to regional markets, fostering the growth of food industries and logistics. Government support, encompassing agricultural extension and veterinary services, plays a crucial role in ensuring the success and sustainability of these investment projects.

Currently, Al Dhahirah hosts 67 food security investment projects across three wilayats, covering approximately 9,607 acres with a total investment value of OMR84 million. Notably, the recently signed poultry project with A'Namaa is valued at OMR28.85 million. Ibri leads with 38 projects, while Dhank is recognized as the governorate's "food basket," contributing to self-sufficiency and economic diversification goals for 2026. The Directorate aims to attract between OMR37.5 million and OMR50 million in new investments by 2026, focusing on plant, animal, and aquatic sectors to enhance food security and competitiveness.
