Al-Hilal holds talks with Arsenal over winger Gabriel Martinelli

Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has entered negotiations with Arsenal over a potential move for winger Gabriel Martinelli, signaling a strong interest in acquiring the Brazilian player.

The Saudi club is reportedly willing to submit a bid exceeding the €45 million (£38.54 million) offer previously made by Galatasaray. Martinelli had reportedly rejected the move to the Turkish club earlier this summer. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has informed Martinelli that he is free to leave the Emirates Stadium, as the player is no longer considered a key part of his strategy.

Martinelli joined Arsenal in 2019 from Brazilian side Ituano and has one year remaining on his current contract. Last season, he made 53 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals as Arsenal secured the Premier League title. However, he was notably absent from Arsenal's opening league match on Friday, which they won 3-0.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has expressed discomfort with how Martinelli is being treated by the club. "The way Martinelli is being treated at the moment, it really makes me feel uncomfortable," Wright told Sky Sports. Arteta has reportedly explained his decision regarding the player's future directly to Martinelli.

Al-Hilal's pursuit of Martinelli comes as the club also shows interest in Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. Watkins was absent from Villa's opening-day defeat, with manager Unai Emery declining to guarantee his continued presence at the club.
