Alison dos Santos, Marileidy Paulino and Audrey Werro Shine in Brussels

Alison dos Santos dominated the 400-meter hurdles in Brussels, winning by about 10 meters in 46.70 and setting a meeting record. The Brazilian world-record holder secured his fourth consecutive victory in Brussels and his third Diamond trophy, following wins in 2022 and 2024.

Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino also took center stage. She won the women’s 400 meters in 48.64, improving the previous meeting record of 48.83 set by Sanya Richards-Ross in 2009. It was Paulino’s fourth Diamond trophy and her 28th circuit victory. Norway’s Henriette Jaeger finished second in 49.20, ahead of Jamaica’s Nickisha Pryce in 49.36.

Switzerland’s Audrey Werro won the 800 meters in 1:54.75, edging the Netherlands’ Femke Bol by six hundredths of a second. Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion, missed the race through injury.

Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska won the 1,500 meters in 3:54.05, setting meeting and national records as well as the fastest time in the world this year. She beat Kenya’s Dorcus Ewoi and Australia’s Jessica Hull in the closing meters.

Ethiopia’s Gemechu Godana won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:08.67, ahead of world-record holder Soufiane El Bakkali, who suffered his second defeat of the season. American Masai Russell won the women’s 100-meter hurdles in 12.20. The competition was due to close with the 400-meter hurdles.
