Alleged criminal cell leader dies in Culiacán confrontation; identity under investigation

A confrontation in Culiacán, Mexico, resulted in the death of an alleged leader of a criminal cell. The incident took place in an apartment complex in the Infonavit Humaya area, where state forces were conducting an inspection.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, who reportedly engaged in a shootout with state elements. One version of events suggests the individual killed was a high-ranking figure within a criminal cell operating in the state capital.

Hours before the fatal confrontation, federal and state forces had detained four individuals in the same complex. They were found with a substantial arsenal, including an assault rifle, 40 loaded magazines, and four linked ammunition belts. The seized items also included three AK-47 rifles, an additional machine gun, an AR-15 rifle, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

In addition to firearms, the arrested men were carrying tactical vests, ballistic plates, and 50 grams of suspected cocaine. They were apprehended while attempting to flee in a Nissan Versa. The police also responded to a separate shooting incident in the Valle del Agua neighborhood, where one person was killed.
