Alleged 'Drug Queen' Captured in Ecuador After Firing at Police

Ecuadorian authorities have dismantled a criminal network allegedly involved in drug trafficking, organized crime, and illegal fuel trade through a joint operation dubbed 'Gran Fenix 050.' The operation, a collaboration between the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, targeted various locations across Esmeraldas, Atacames, Muisne, Manta, and Ambato.

Patricia E., identified by the alias 'Lili,' is accused of being the alleged leader and primary financier of the organization. During the raid on her residence, Minister of the Interior John Reimberg stated that 'Lili' fired at the police team. The investigation spanned 17 months and uncovered the organization's use of the Esmeraldas and Manabí coasts for drug collection and shipment. Their operations were supported by a network for financing, fuel logistics, and land and sea transportation, along with security measures. The operation also led to the arrest of Sergeant David Orlando Zambrano Vera, alias "Mi Sub," who was allegedly coordinating fuel supplies for the group while on active duty. Authorities seized $10,000 in cash, a firearm, and other evidence during the operation, which resulted in ten arrests.
