Alongside Lula, Boulos adopts 'us vs. them' discourse at MTST event

Guilherme Boulos, a key minister in President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration, employed a stark "us versus them" rhetoric during a campaign event attended by the president and supporters of the Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST).

Speaking from the stage in Taboão da Serra, São Paulo, Boulos positioned the upcoming election as a battleground between those who champion national sovereignty, dignified housing, and women's rights, and those who allegedly seek to subjugate Brazil to foreign interests. "We have a battle between the defense of Brazil and those who want Brazil on its knees to foreign powers," he declared.

Boulos, who considers the MTST his political home, drew parallels between the movement and the "factory floor" and the metalworkers' union in São Bernardo do Campo, which served as the launchpad for Lula's political career. Without naming names, he directed sharp criticism at former presidents. He referred to Michel Temer as the "guy who staged a coup and ended Minha Casa Minha Vida," a popular housing program. Jair Bolsonaro was labeled a "bad thing" and blamed for halting the production of affordable housing under the same program.

During the event, Boulos announced the selection of new housing projects within the MTST's reach in metropolitan region cities, promising that hundreds of families would soon realize their dream of homeownership. He also praised Lula's resilience, stating that despite facing persecution, elites, and imprisonment, the president never attempted to evade accountability.
