Alonso: Aston Martin not surprised by qualifying result

Fernando Alonso, the seasoned Spanish Formula One driver for Aston Martin, expressed that the team was not taken aback by their qualifying performance for the British Grand Prix sprint race. "We were not surprised to finish where we ended up today; and we found it difficult to optimize everything with only one practice session," Alonso stated at the Silverstone circuit.

Alonso, a two-time world champion, acknowledged the team's efforts despite the challenging circumstances. "I was content with the laps we did in qualifying for the sprint and I think we did a good job as a team, but we are still very far from where we would like to be," he added. The AMR24 car is currently considered the slowest on the grid, a stark contrast to Alonso's illustrious career which includes 32 wins and 106 podiums.

Despite the current struggles, Alonso remains focused on the upcoming sprint race. "We'll see what we can do tomorrow in the sprint," he said.
