Alvarado challenges opposition on security reform proposals

Chilean Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado has called on the opposition to present their security reform proposals in Congress or at the presidential palace, La Moneda. Alvarado rejected demands to withdraw the government's security bill, stating that Parliament is the primary forum for legislative debate.

"The reform, like any project, any initiative, has a channel, and that channel for discussion, for debate, par excellence, is Parliament," Alvarado said. He added that pre-legislative work is a way to approach parliamentary discussions, but many of the security initiatives in the bill are already being considered in over 23 existing projects.

The minister highlighted the commitment of parties supporting the government to advance the security agenda. "There is an effective commitment from the parties that support us to move forward with this security agenda," he stated, valuing the willingness to improve the reform. "There is full agreement on why these initiatives are being established."

Regarding the opposition, Alvarado indicated that their proposals are expected in Congress or La Moneda, implying a challenge for them to contribute constructively to the ongoing security debate.
