Despite his return to the training ground, Alvarez has been officially ruled out of Saturday's match against Sevilla. Coach Diego Simeone confirmed this, stating, "Evidently, he will not be there tomorrow." Simeone also emphasized his commitment to supporting Alvarez upon his full return to the squad, adding, "From the moment Julián returns to train with us, we will give him everything we always have to make him feel important, as he is to our team."

The player's on-field return coincides with significant uncertainty surrounding his future at the club. Atlético de Madrid has reportedly communicated to Alvarez that a transfer to Barcelona, a club he was reportedly keen on joining, is not being considered. The club's priority is for him to remain with Atlético, where he has a contract extending until 2030. However, if a departure is to occur, Atlético is seeking a transfer fee in the region of 150 million euros. Arsenal is rumored to be a potential suitor, though any deal would hinge on the player's own decision.
