Ambassador Johnson celebrates arrest of 'La Quiringua,' Los Reyes leader; 'criminals have nowhere to hide'

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, lauded the apprehension of Alfonso Fernández Magallón, also known as "Poncho" or "La Quiringua," who is identified as a leader within the Los Reyes Cartel. Johnson took to X, formerly Twitter, to commend the Mexican Security Cabinet for their "permanent efforts" in achieving this significant arrest.

"Criminals have nowhere to hide," Johnson declared, emphasizing the message this capture sends to illicit organizations operating in the region. He also shared a reward poster, noting that up to $5 million USD had been offered for information leading to Fernández Magallón's capture, underscoring the high priority placed on his apprehension.

Johnson specifically referenced the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, stating that their "shared commitment to dismantle cartels and hold violent offenders accountable continues to yield results." This statement highlights a collaborative approach between the two nations in combating organized crime.

The ambassador's remarks follow his previous praise for security cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico, particularly noting the successful operation against "El Mencho."
