Ambassador Johnson mourns two SSPC agents killed in Veracruz attack: “We honor their service”

Ronald Johnson, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, expressed condolences after two agents of Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection were killed during an attack in Omealca, Veracruz.

Johnson offered sympathy to the agents’ families and colleagues and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured. He praised the officers for working to make communities safer.

“Sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks faced every day by those who work in security and law enforcement institutions,” Johnson wrote on social media. “We honor their service by continuing to work for safer communities and to protect the people for whom they gave their lives.”

SSPC chief Omar García Harfuch said the federal agents came under gunfire from organized crime members while carrying out investigative work. Two agents died, while a female colleague was injured and received medical care, he said, adding that she had the institution’s full support.

García Harfuch said an operation began immediately to locate and arrest those responsible. He thanked security agencies for their prompt support and coordination, recognized the agents’ courage and commitment to protecting the public, and warned: “This crime will not go unpunished. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
