Ameerah Legacy Foundation launches with awards and free health checks for Lagos students

The Ameerah Legacy Foundation has officially launched in Lagos, Nigeria, marking its debut community outreach initiative by combining academic recognition with free healthcare services for over 200 students, parents, and teachers across two public schools.

The launch event, held on July 24, 2026, at Community High School in Surulere, Lagos, featured the presentation of Academic Excellence Awards to high-achieving students from both the host school and Lagos Progressive Secondary School. Simultaneously, the foundation offered free health screenings to community members, reflecting its core belief that education and health are interconnected pillars of community development.

Established with the conviction that true success lies in positively impacting lives and creating opportunities, the Ameerah Legacy Foundation is named after the founder's daughter. Its mission centers on meaningful investment in people, particularly children, women, and families, who are seen as the bedrock of a thriving society. The foundation operates on the philosophy that encouraging a child fosters a future leader, appreciating a teacher shapes countless lives, and a healthy parent supports an entire family's well-being.

This philosophy guided the inaugural event's structure. It not only celebrated students for their academic achievements and character but also honored teachers for their dedication. Many teachers and parents received free medical attention on the same day. Licensed medical professionals conducted screenings for hepatitis, tuberculosis, blood pressure, diabetes, and stress levels, with free medication provided as needed.

Organizers described the community's response as deeply emotional, with many parents and teachers expressing profound gratitude for the recognition and care extended to public school students and staff, a demographic often overlooked by outreach programs. "Friday was the first step in a promise we made to celebrate excellence and care for the people who raise and teach our children," said Chairman Mr. Oladapo Obansere. "This is only the beginning of what Ameerah Legacy Foundation will bring to communities across Lagos." Oluremi Ogunwale, a team member, added, "There is nothing more rewarding than investing in the lives of our children. Seeing the excitement on the faces of students, teachers and parents, knowing that a child in a public school can be celebrated for academic excellence, and that a teacher’s years of work can be recognised too, that is exactly why this foundation exists."
