América has 'the demand to win' Apertura 2026, says Sánchez

Despite a quiet transfer window with only one new signing, Óscar Perea, América's midfielder Erick Sánchez assures that the squad remains "very calm" and on the "right track" under new coach Guillermo Almada. Sánchez believes the team possesses the quality and players necessary to contend for any tournament title.

"We have a team to fight for any tournament and we know we can compete with any team because of the quality and players available," Sánchez stated in a press conference. He acknowledged the team's current performance is not yet at its best but expressed confidence in improving. "The tournament is just beginning, but we are very aware that we will do things better. Whether reinforcements arrive or not, the objective is the same; we are very focused and determined on that."

Sánchez highlighted the immense pressure and expectation that comes with representing the most successful club in Liga MX. "We are aware that we are América, and here, if you don't win, the effort is meaningless. I like that because it speaks to the demand and how great this club is. Every tournament played is a tournament that must be won. We all have the same objective and will work 100% to achieve it," he asserted.

Looking ahead to América's home debut against Santos, Sánchez acknowledged the opponent's strength but affirmed the team's readiness. He also spoke about reuniting with coach Guillermo Almada, expressing hope that it will help him rediscover his peak form, similar to his time at Pachuca. "I am working for that, I hope so. I am doing things in the best way because I have to return to being the player I was with him at Pachuca, or better. I will work so that things go well for me and I can return to my best version," Sánchez added.
