American Found Dead in San Miguel de Allende; Fall During Hiking Under Investigation

Authorities in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, have found the body of a 60-year-old American man who had been reported missing. The man was discovered in a body of water in the Boca de la Cañada area, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The American national was last seen alive in the Las Tinajas community on Friday, July 31. His acquaintances reported him missing, leading local authorities to immediately activate search protocols. Security forces conducted extensive searches in the Xocolar and Las Tinajas areas to locate him.

According to the San Miguel de Allende Citizen Security Secretariat, preliminary findings at the site where the body was found suggest a possible fall into the water. Investigators are considering this as one of the primary lines of inquiry. Search and rescue teams, including aerial support, were deployed over the weekend to locate the missing hiker.

The man's body was found around midday on Sunday. Law enforcement officials have notified the State Attorney General's Office, and the scene has been secured for forensic processing to determine the official cause of death. The discovery follows a separate incident reported the same afternoon where two other individuals drowned in the Jalpa dam in San Miguel de Allende.
