Amotekun arrests couple over burglary at ex-Ondo speaker’s home

A couple has been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, for allegedly burgling the country home of former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker Jumoke Akindele in Okitipupa. The suspects, identified as Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, 22, were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation.

I’m happy to let you know that all the phones stolen are here in front of the suspects. The two suspects are right here with us, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, 22, including the transporter who was supposed to take the phones out of Okitipupa to Lagos. We equally have the accomplice.

During the operation, Amotekun operatives recovered seven expensive mobile phones and other valuables believed to have been stolen during the burglary. The security outfit also thwarted an attempt to transport the stolen items to Lagos for sale. An accomplice involved in the transportation chain was also arrested based on the suspects' confessions.

Parading the suspects in Akure, the Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the recovery of all stolen phones. He stated that the suspects and the transporter involved would be charged to court immediately, and the recovered phones would be returned to the former Speaker.

I have often been regaled with the heroic efforts of the Amotekun Corps in battling and curtailing crimes in Ondo State. To say that I am awed by their dexterity, determination, bravery and commitment to duty is an understatement.

Akindele confirmed the burglary occurred early Sunday morning, with the suspects allegedly breaking into her residence and stealing valuable items. She noted that several windows were damaged. The former Speaker used the incident to reiterate her call for the establishment of state police, highlighting Amotekun's success as a strong argument for constitutional reform. She praised the Amotekun Corps for their "dexterity, determination, bravery and commitment to duty" and urged the state government to recognize and reward their efforts.

I salute the Corps Commandant, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, whose effective and productive leadership style is evident. Investigations are ongoing, with most of the perpetrators already in Amotekun custody.
