Amotekun arrests two suspected kidnappers, eight others in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, operating under the codename Amotekun Corps, has announced the apprehension of two suspected kidnappers and eight additional individuals implicated in diverse criminal activities. These offenses range from motorcycle theft and burglary to armed robbery, spanning across the state.

I received a distress call directly from the Isinigbo/Osi area, and within five minutes, my men were there. After a brief scuffle with the kidnappers, we were able to rescue the woman and her two children from their claws.

Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, revealed these details during a parade of the suspects. He emphasized that these arrests are a component of sustained operations aimed at purging the state of criminal elements and guaranteeing the security of its residents. Adeleye highlighted a recent operation where Amotekun successfully rescued a woman and her two children from kidnappers in the Isinigbo/Osi area, responding to a distress call within minutes.

Adeleye also pointed to the crucial role of cooperation from Fulani residents in identifying suspected criminals within their communities. He stressed that this collaboration helps security agencies avoid making broad generalizations about criminality, allowing for more targeted and effective interventions. "The amazing part of this struggle is that the Fulani men who had joined us were the people who assisted us in identifying the kidnappers among them, so that we would not generalize it," Adeleye stated.

Among the arrested suspects is Murtala, 19, apprehended with a locally made firearm and other weapons. He is accused of attempting to kidnap the wife of his former employer in Molege, Owo. Murtala allegedly confessed to multiple kidnapping activities and targeted his former boss's wife in his latest attempt, which was foiled when the husband and others raised an alarm, mobilizing security operatives. Another suspected kidnapper, 27-year-old Gambo, was arrested near Shasha in Akure while allegedly negotiating ransom with a potential victim, unaware he was being monitored. Gambo reportedly confessed to being a serial kidnapper operating in the Akure North axis. The remaining eight suspects face charges including motorcycle theft and burglary, with one suspect allegedly involved in burglarizing churches and mosques.
