Anatomy expert Kim Jong-joong donates body for education and research

Professor Kim Jong-joong, a distinguished honorary professor of anatomy at Chosun University's College of Medicine, has donated his body to advance medical education and research. His family further honored his legacy by contributing 30 million won (approximately $22,000 USD) to the university.

Professor Kim, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 76, devoted his entire career to the field of anatomy. He served at Chosun University's College of Medicine from 1974 until 2016, focusing intently on both teaching and research. During his distinguished career, he also served as the 58th president of the Korean Association of Anatomists.

This is not the first time Professor Kim has shown generosity towards the university. In 2017, after receiving a liver transplant at Chosun University Hospital, he donated 10 million won to express his gratitude to the medical staff and the institution.

Professor Kim nurtured many medical professionals throughout his life dedicated to anatomy education and research, and even in his final moments, he left his body and his precious will for medical advancement and the cultivation of future generations.

Chosun University plans to utilize Professor Kim's donation as a valuable resource for student education, medical research, and overall healthcare advancement. The donated funds are earmarked for strengthening the foundation of anatomy education and research, as well as supporting the construction of a new Chosun University Hospital.

University President Kim Chun-seong praised Professor Kim's lifelong commitment, stating, "Professor Kim nurtured many medical professionals throughout his life dedicated to anatomy education and research, and even in his final moments, he left his body and his precious will for medical advancement and the cultivation of future generations." He added that Professor Kim's "noble practice will be remembered in the hearts of the university and its students as the teachings of a true mentor, awakening the dignity of life and the responsibility of medical professionals."
