Ancient Merbau tree becomes National Conservation Project

A Merbau tree, estimated to be nearly a century old and standing at about 50 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 5.2 meters, has been officially designated as a National Tree Conservation Project in Raub. This ancient tree, located on land belonging to the Public Works Department near Kampung Kuala Keloi, is now under formal protection.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Raub Forest Office and the Kuala Keloi Village Security and Development Committee (JPKK). It falls under the Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Program, marking a significant conservation effort for this natural heritage. The symbolic launch of the conservation project was officiated by Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, Chairman of the State Communication and Multimedia, Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organizations Committee, during the "Kita Cakna 2.0" program.

Abdul Majid Hussin, chairman of JPKK Kuala Keloi, stated that this valuable Merbau is the only giant specimen of its species found thriving in the area, according to oral accounts from previous generations. The tree is believed to have grown naturally since the pre-independence era, making its conservation particularly meaningful.
