Another 'large and strong' typhoon expected this week; international models show no threat to Taiwan

Taiwan is bracing for the potential formation of a "large and strong" typhoon this week, which meteorologists suggest could be characteristic of a "super El Niño year." While current international weather models indicate no immediate threat to the island, residents are advised to stay informed.

Meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted in a column for the Weather Impact Promotion Foundation that the remnants of Typhoon Hongxia might still influence eastern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, bringing localized showers. The rest of the island could see afternoon showers. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, prompting warnings for sun protection and heatstroke prevention.

Looking ahead, conditions are predicted to become more stable from Thursday to Saturday as the Pacific high pressure system slightly strengthens. Skies are expected to be clear, with hot daytime temperatures persisting. However, the chance of localized thunderstorms in mountainous areas in the afternoon remains.

From next Sunday to Tuesday, the Pacific high pressure is forecast to dominate, leading to stable, clear, and hot weather across Taiwan. The public is urged to continue taking precautions against the sun and heat.
