ANTAM Strengthens Forest-Fire Response in Mempawah as CEO Inspects Operations

ANTAM President Director Untung Budiharto went directly to Mempawah in West Kalimantan to inspect the response to forest and land fires and check the readiness of personnel and company support.

Emergency Response Group teams from ANTAM, PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia and the wider MIND ID group have been searching the area, spraying and wetting land, extinguishing fire spots and working to prevent the flames from spreading. The response is being coordinated with Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, the military, police, local government, the Community Fire Care group and other parties.

“ Our priority at present is to support all efforts so that the fire spots can be controlled quickly and their impact on communities and the environment can be minimized,” Untung said. “ANTAM together with MIND ID and all related parties continue to coordinate and deploy the resources needed to strengthen the response in the field.”

MIND ID has consolidated 60 certified firefighters from operational areas across Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi and Papua for the Mempawah operation. The support also includes firefighting foam, personal protective equipment, turnout gear, fire hoses, medical masks and N95 masks for personnel and residents affected by smoke.

Field monitoring and coordination indicated that the fire spots did not come from ANTAM or MIND ID operational activities. ANTAM said it nonetheless took a proactive role because protecting communities and the environment, and limiting the fires’ impact, remain company priorities.
