Anurag Jain Appointed New CEO of NITI Aayog

The Indian government has appointed Anurag Jain, a seasoned 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet issued an order confirming Jain's appointment.

Jain is set to serve in this key national policy role for a period of two years, commencing from the date he assumes charge. This appointment follows an extension of his tenure as the chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh, the state's top bureaucratic position, until August 31, 2026.

With over three decades of experience, Jain has held significant positions at both the central and state government levels. He is recognized for his expertise in handling major policy and governance assignments across various sectors. His career includes extensive involvement in state-level administration and central government responsibilities.

This leadership change at NITI Aayog, the government's primary think tank, comes after economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri was appointed Vice Chairperson in April, succeeding Suman K Bery. In his new capacity, Jain will be responsible for coordinating development agenda initiatives with ministries, states, and other stakeholders.
