Anwar vows to return 'robbed' public funds to people

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to return public funds lost to corruption back to the people, including students and educational institutions, should he continue in his role. He asserted that the nation could have averted substantial financial losses if corruption and abuse of power had been effectively prevented from the outset.

If we can save from these two bodies (referring to the losses incurred by Tabung Haji and Felda) RM20 billion, that money is not for me. It is not for national projects either.

Anwar cited specific examples of financial mismanagement, noting that Tabung Haji (the national Hajj pilgrimage fund) previously incurred losses of up to RM12 billion due to poor management and governance. Felda (Federal Land Development Authority) also recorded a loss of RM10 billion. He suggested that if he remains Prime Minister, any funds successfully saved from such issues would be returned to students, the public, and educational institutions.

But, if I continue to be given trust after this (as Prime Minister), the amount saved will be returned to students and the public and institutions.

Speaking at a program in Permatang Pauh, Anwar also conveyed his aspiration for young Malaysians to feel proud of their nation. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring political stability and peace, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in building the country.

I am confident, at this age, (being) a grandfather to children, I only aspire to guarantee this country remains politically stable and peaceful.

However, he cautioned against divisive rhetoric, stating that continuous mutual insults and the perpetuation of racial and religious issues would hinder the nation's progress. Anwar's remarks underscore a focus on good governance, financial recovery, and national unity as key priorities for Malaysia's future development.

But, if we continue to insult each other and always play on racial and religious issues, then we will not be able to develop this country.
