APC begins LG poll campaign in Ebonyi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State commenced its campaign for the upcoming August 22 Local Government Area elections on Monday in Ikwo. The party signaled its intent for massive grassroots mobilization, with leaders stressing the critical need for increased collection of Permanent Voter Cards to secure victories across all 171 wards and 13 local government areas.

I therefore urge party supporters to embark on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the election.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Deputy Governor Patricia Obila, presented the party's flag to the Chairmanship Flagbearer for Ikwo LGA, Mr. Chidi Nwode. He described the party's chairmanship and councillorship candidates as "tested, trusted and marketable," urging party faithful to unite and ensure total victory. Nwifuru advised supporters to engage in issue-based campaigns, avoiding actions that could undermine the election's peaceful conduct and to make the candidates acceptable to the people.

Former Ebonyi Governor Chief Martin Elechi, who chaired the occasion, cautioned against mistaking political campaigns for periods of rancor. He urged political actors to respect citizens' rights to belong to any party and to avoid intimidation or attacks due to political differences. Elechi expressed confidence in the APC's victory, citing the people's support for the current state administration.

The Speaker of the Ebonyi House of Assembly, Chief Moses Odunwa, echoed the call for support for APC candidates, emphasizing the party's unity for total victory. He encouraged residents to maintain peace and eligible voters to participate actively. National Assembly member Chinedu Ogah highlighted the event as the start of political mobilization across the state, urging voters to obtain and safeguard their PVCs, assuring them that every vote would count. APC State Chairman Chief Stanley Emegha thanked the people of Ikwo for their steadfast support, indicating widespread acceptance of the party in the locality.
