New JAMB registrar unveils five-pillar reform agenda

Segun Aina, the newly appointed Registrar of Nigeria's Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has introduced a comprehensive five-pillar reform agenda designed to enhance the board's operations over the next five years. Aina officially assumed leadership on Monday, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who served for a decade.

The reform plan, running from 2026 to 2031, is structured around "Project 2:5:7," encompassing two strategic objectives, five core pillars, and seven flagship initiatives. Aina stated the agenda aims to build on previous reforms, positioning JAMB as "Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution." The plan emphasizes integrity, service, governance, technology, and partnerships as its foundational pillars.

Under the pillar of integrity, measures like ISO 27001 Information Security Certification and independent technology reviews are planned to bolster institutional credibility. Service delivery will be improved through enhanced customer experiences and increased engagement with stakeholders. Governance will focus on strengthening performance monitoring and internal accountability. The board also intends to expand its digital infrastructure using scalable platforms, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to refine decision-making and service delivery. Deepened collaborations with financial institutions, fintech companies, and international partners are also part of the strategy.

Seven flagship initiatives will drive the agenda's implementation. These include an independent review of JAMB's technology infrastructure, obtaining ISO 27001 certification, developing a unified JAMB mobile application, and establishing a unified customer service platform. Other initiatives involve strategic communication and brand repositioning, implementing a paperless digital administration system, and enhancing staff welfare and capacity development. Aina pledged to leverage innovation and stronger institutional systems to improve service delivery, ensuring JAMB continues its statutory role in providing fair and credible access to tertiary education.
