APC blocs dispute Bauchi gov primary results

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State is facing internal disputes over the governorship primary election results, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Supporters of Yusuf Tuggar, the immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, are challenging the outcome, which declared former Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the party's candidate.

Such a development is unusual and unprecedented. To date, the party has not publicly and officially confirmed the declaration.

Members of the Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Foundation have formally petitioned the APC's national leadership, questioning the legitimacy of Abubakar's declaration. Shehu Barau, the foundation's secretary, described the declaration as unusual, noting it was made by Abubakar himself rather than through official party channels. The foundation maintains that no valid primary election was conducted.

In response, the League of APC Support Groups in Bauchi State, led by Dr. Ibrahim Dawaki, has dismissed these claims as false and misleading. Dawaki urged Tuggar and his supporters to accept the results, asserting that the primary election adhered to the party's constitution and the Electoral Act. He called the allegation that no primary election was held "laughable," pointing out that Tuggar himself participated in the process.

Dawaki criticized the foundation's briefing as "awkwardly and poorly addressed by a hired transactional politician."
