APC Disowns Self-Declared Ogun Governorship Candidate, Affirms Yayi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared that a self-proclaimed governorship candidate, Abayomi Hunye, is not recognized by the party. Hunye had declared himself the APC's standard bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), hereby informs the general public stakeholders, Ogun State Chapter and the good people of Ogun State that Mr. Abayomi Hunye is an impostor who is currently on suspension as a member of APC.

Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the APC, labeled Hunye's declaration as "false, unauthorised and mischievous." Basiru clarified that Hunye is currently suspended from the party, a decision stemming from a petition by his local ward.

The suspension, which occurred on April 7, 2026, was reportedly driven by grassroots decisions, ratified by the local government area, and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee. Reasons cited for the suspension include engaging in activities detrimental to the party's image and deliberately causing disaffection among members.

His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our great party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.

Consequently, the APC asserts that Hunye lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the party in any capacity. The party leadership firmly reiterated that Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi remains the legitimate candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

For the avoidance o f doubt, Mr. Abayomi Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the Party o n April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area.
