APC fixes primaries, pegs presidential form at ₦100m

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has laid out its roadmap for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential primary scheduled for May 15-16, 2026. This announcement, detailed by APC National Organising Secretary Sulaiman Argungu, sets the price for presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at a substantial ₦100 million. This move underscores the significant financial commitment required to vie for the party's presidential ticket.

The APC pegged its presidential form at ₦100m, comprising ₦30m for expression of interest and ₦70m for nomination.

Beyond the presidential race, the party has also stipulated fees for other positions: governorship aspirants will pay ₦50 million, Senate candidates ₦20 million, House of Representatives hopefuls ₦10 million, and State House of Assembly aspirants ₦6 million. Recognizing the need for inclusivity, the APC has granted concessions to female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities, who will pay only for expression of interest forms and 50 percent of the nomination fees. This is a welcome gesture aimed at broadening participation.

The party's timetable also specifies dates for the screening of aspirants, release of results, and handling of appeals, ensuring a structured process. All primary elections across different levels are slated to conclude within an eight-day period. This comprehensive schedule is presented as being in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, signaling an intent to conduct a transparent and orderly electoral process.
