APC names Anyim, Masari to head 2026 presidential primary committees

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is meticulously laying the groundwork for its 2026 presidential primary, signaling a commitment to a structured and organized electoral process. The party has announced the formation of crucial election management committees, appointing former Senate President Pius Anyim to chair the Presidential Primary Election Committee and former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari to head the separate appeal panel. This move underscores the APC's dedication to ensuring a fair and transparent primary.

According to the guidelines released by APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, the primary election will be a direct one, with voting taking place across all 8,809 wards nationwide. This inclusive approach allows party members at the grassroots level to directly cast their ballots for their preferred aspirants. The election is slated for May 23, with incumbent President Bola Tinubu and Stanley Osifo being the two registered aspirants.

The collation of results will follow a multi-tiered system, starting at the local government level and culminating in Abuja. Results from the 774 local government areas will be compiled by designated Local Government Collation Officers, who will then forward them to State Coordinators and Collation Officers. These state-level officials will, in turn, compile and transmit the outcomes to the Presidential Primary Election Committee for final collation. This detailed process aims to ensure accuracy and prevent any discrepancies.

The party has also released a comprehensive list of State Coordinators and Collation Officers, which includes several serving state governors. This broad participation from party leadership at various levels highlights the significance the APC places on this primary election. The established procedures and committees reflect the party's readiness to conduct a seamless electoral exercise, reinforcing its commitment to democratic principles within the party structure.
