A meeting between Lithuania’s governing Social Democrats and the opposition conservatives has prompted questions about whether the two sides are setting aside their differences.

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, who leads the governing Social Democratic Party, met Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the leader of the opposition Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, at the Government House on Friday.

Sinkevičius said political forces should come together for the sake of the state, regardless of their ideological differences. His message amounted to an invitation for broader political cooperation.
