APC wins all seats in Ebonyi local elections as rivals boycott

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in the Ebonyi State local government elections, winning all 13 chairmanship and 171 councillorship seats. The results were announced by Patrick Enyi, chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), in Abakaliki on Sunday.

Notably, no other political parties participated in the August 22 elections. EBSIEC declared all APC candidates as winners in their respective constituencies. Among the chairmen-elect is Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who will lead the Ohaozara Local Government Area.

The elections were peaceful, free and fair.

Despite EBSIEC chairman Enyi describing the elections as peaceful, free, and fair, opposition parties have strongly condemned the outcome. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi rejected the exercise, labeling it a "mono-party poll."
