APM sweeps Bauchi LG polls, wins all 20 chairmanship seats

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has achieved a dominant victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, securing every chairmanship seat and a vast majority of councillorship positions. The party claimed all 20 chairmanship seats and 319 out of the 323 available councillorships across the state.

Official results were announced late Monday night by the Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Hon. Hajiya Jummai S. Abubakar. After vote counting, collation, and verification, BASIEC declared the APM candidates as winners in all 20 local government areas, confirming they received the highest number of valid votes and met legal requirements.

The election was conducted transparently and in accordance with relevant electoral laws.

The election saw APM candidates win with substantial vote counts in each local government area. For instance, Umar Mohammed Aliyu won the Bauchi chairmanship with 125,170 votes, and Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo secured the Toro chairmanship with 109,999 votes. While APM overwhelmingly dominated, four opposition parties, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Young Progressive Party (YPP), each managed to win a single councillorship seat in their respective local government areas.

BASIEC Chairperson Abubakar commended Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir for providing the necessary support that enabled the commission to conduct the elections effectively. She characterized the electoral process as peaceful and transparent, conducted in accordance with relevant laws. Abubakar congratulated the people of Bauchi State on the successful election and extended well wishes to the newly elected officials as they prepare to assume their duties.
