Appeal Court Judgment: Kaduna ADC faction seeks compliance and reconciliation

The Legacy faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has called for adherence to a recent Court of Appeal judgment concerning the party's leadership dispute. The faction's State Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, stated that the appellate court's ruling reinforces the Federal High Court's earlier decision recognizing the party's established structures following its April congresses.

Mustapha explained that the Court of Appeal, in a majority decision, upheld the lower court's order preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing state congresses or leadership structures that emerged from committees formed during the April congresses. He emphasized that the judgment confirms the legitimacy of the duly elected State Executive Committees as the authorized organs for conducting congresses, in accordance with the party's constitution.

Urging members from other factions to respect the court's verdict, Mustapha stressed the importance of avoiding actions that contradict existing judicial pronouncements. He affirmed the Legacy faction's commitment to fostering reconciliation and unity within the ADC, aiming to strengthen its foundations in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The judgment, in the faction’s view, affirmed that the duly elected State Executive Committees remained the recognised organs empowered to conduct congresses in line with the party’s constitution.

The chairman also advised individuals claiming party leadership to comply with all court orders. The Legacy faction intends to continue pursuing legal avenues to protect the party's constitutional structures. Mustapha pledged support for the party's national leadership under Senator David Mark, expressing confidence in a united ADC's potential to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative.
